OMG! Call your BFF! You’re totally going to LOL—not to mention groove and sing along—when you check out Pat Campo’s cool new addition to the “text-speak” lexicon: “JTITM,” short for “Just Text It To Me.” Perfectly capturing the zeitgeist of American culture in the 2010s, the Los Angeles based singer/songwriter follows up his well received self titled 2008 full length independent debut with the infectious synth and guitar driven pop/rock single “JTITM (Just Text It To Me).” The song’s visually striking video features clever images of “modern communications” between friends splashed across the screens of three iPhones. The clip, directed by Campo and created using the HD video feature of a simple Canon 550D camera, has received over 17,000 views on YouTube.
Though Campo’s lyrics are a bit snarky in tone—the hook is “I don’t want to talk right now/I’m busy, can’t you understand that somehow,” and another oft-repeated phrase is “You think I’m busy but you know I’m fakin’”—the singer’s initial inspiration came from an honest and practical place. After touring numerous cities on the West Coast in support of his first album, Campo was diagnosed with vertigo and was bedridden for several frustrating months. He appreciated the many well-wishing relatives and friends who called him during this time, but in his weakened state found it much easier to “talk” via text than phone.
While songs like “JTITM (Just Text It To Me)” and “Leggo My Ego” (from the singer’s debut album) show his proficiency with witty turns of phrase, Campo shows a more heartfelt, introspective side of his songwriting—not to mention his edgier alt rock sensibilities–on the five track EP aptly titled “JTITM (Just Text It To Me)”.
Campo’s emergence as a solo artist comes after years of being involved in various rock, pop rock and power rock bands on the L.A. scene (including Gustavo and Modern Amusement) in various capacities–including lead singer, songwriter, bassist and backing vocalist—and playing at all the famed venues, including The Whiskey-A-Go-Go, Troubadour and Viper Room. He currently writes and collaborates with numerous artists in the L.A. area as he works on material for his next full length recording.
Despite what he sings on his breakthrough track, the singer will have no issues with picking up the phone and actually talking as those opportunities arise. But, for now, unless it’s urgent, "JTITM."
